ARTIST PROFILE

Liberty Elvis Muroro, professionally known as Mt Trapkid, also recognised as Mutare Trapkid aka Savage, is a Zimbabwean artist from Honde Valley who has been building his musical identity since 2017.

His sound sits at the intersection of Hip Hop, Trap, Drill and Afropop, combining contemporary urban influences with a distinctly Zimbabwean perspective. Mt Trapkid describes his musical direction as a “new Zim hip taste”, with his artistic identity centred around the concept “Dark Mbada Trap Mode.”

Rather than limiting himself to one sound, Mt Trapkid uses different elements of trap, drill and Afropop to explore everyday experiences, ambition, struggle and the realities faced by young people. His approach reflects the energy of a new generation of Zimbabwean artists seeking to develop their own sound while remaining connected to their roots.

MUSICAL JOURNEY

Mt Trapkid began his music career in 2017, marking the start of a journey focused on developing his voice, identity and presence within Zimbabwe's evolving urban music scene.

Over the years, he has continued shaping the Mutare Trapkid/Savage identity around hard-hitting contemporary sounds and relatable themes. His artistic direction is particularly connected to the trap and drill movement, while his willingness to incorporate Afropop gives his music a broader melodic dimension.

UPCOMING RELEASE — “MONEY”

Mt Trapkid is preparing to release the upcoming music video “Money,” featuring Destiny Mollify.

The song examines the powerful role money plays in everyday life. It contrasts the comfort and opportunities that financial stability can bring with the pressure and difficulties associated with living without money.

“Money” explores how financial hardship can create stress, frustration and difficult circumstances, including the uncomfortable reality of having to ask others for help. At the same time, the song recognises why people place such importance on financial independence and the desire for a better life.

Through the track, Mt Trapkid presents money not simply as a symbol of wealth, but as something that can influence people's choices, relationships, emotions and day-to-day experiences.

ARTISTIC IDENTITY

At the centre of Mt Trapkid's identity is a desire to represent a new Zimbabwean hip-hop sound—one that draws from global trap and drill culture while reflecting local experiences.

With “Dark Mbada Trap Mode” as part of his artistic concept, Mt Trapkid is positioning himself as an emerging voice from Mutare and Honde Valley, bringing his own perspective to Zimbabwe's growing urban music landscape.

His journey, which began in 2017, continues with a focus on music, visual storytelling and establishing the Mt Trapkid name beyond his immediate surroundings.
