THE MUSIC BUSINESS - Chapter One- (Definition of terms) A book by Carnot SkynetYzia.

WHAT IS ART?

The big question covered in this article is "What is art?" and the answer is "It depends who is answering that question".

If its Birdman then Young Thug's mumbling is art, if its me then whatever makes the fans pay to watch or listen to you is art. If you keep reading this art-i-cle  this article is art.

Let's be formal with it. Hey Google. What is "Art"?

Google Search Results
noun

Answer 1.
Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Answer 2.
Art is the various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance.

Answer 3.
Arts are subjects of study primarily concerned with human creativity and social life, such as languages, literature, and history (as contrasted with scientific or technical subjects).

Answer 4.
An art is a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice.

....OK, Thank you so much Google!

There are may forms of art,  an example of art is  "advertising"  - used to make you appreciate another art being sold.

What is advertising?
Advertising is the art of convincing one that it is within their interest to do business with you under your proposed terms. The ability to persuade someone that he is "interested" is a great art.

We live in a new era where social media is the  dominating genre in literature. Slay queens  get more attention than talented artists who don't slay. That's because the so called talented artists tend to relax on their logistics, management, branding etc while slay queens manipulate dozens  using their seductive looks and all they need is a make up kit, a camera phone and internet connection.

What is slaying?

Literary,  Slay means : to kill (a person or animal) in a violent way.

Slang : to greatly impress or amuse (someone).

ON SOCIAL MEDIA “ Slay"–  is mostly used when it comes to ladies fashion – not exclusively – to describe someone looking dapper. To say someone killed it. Example: “You look beautiful, Slay queen”. Zero chill – This term is opposite of 'chill' – it means having no form of calm.

Artists who slay are likely to thoroughly beat artist who don't, because we live in a world where strategic marketing overpowers natural talent (if natural talent is not promoted).

I've just opened another book by saying "promoted". What is to promote?

promote (verb)

Answer 1.
support or actively encourage (a cause, venture, etc.); further the progress of.
Answer 2.
raise (someone) to a higher position or rank.

This demands for "Strategy"...and what is strategy? Let's look at Jah Prayzah vs Winky D. Winky D has talent, and makes  hits bigger than Jah Prayzah....but Jah Prayzah's management has strategy, they simply praise the people with the money...the money to PROMOTE....and money can reduce the loudness of its competitor. Whether that happens for a lengthy or limited time, it happens effectively. Money is power & monetised art WILL WORK.

When a certain thing is practiced to perfection, the one practicing it becomes artisan. That tallies with Google's fourth definition of  art - a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice.

This whole article boils down to mean, *IF A TALENTED ARTIST does not PROMOTE his/her content and does not practise  STRATEGIES to sell their art.... I'm afraid IT WONT WORK! Simple!*

To the talented people out there....What are you doing with your art?  Be strategic, monetise and promote /advertise your talent....practice! and it will work!

I happen to know one upcoming  "talented artist" from my hometown Mutare who is doing all the above...... @TafazMusic

Does this art-i-cle tickle you?
